Since Lex asked, here is a picture of the tree in our yard. This is the only tree in the yard we have decorated like this. As a matter of fact, it is the only tree on the block decorated like this. It's a Japanese town here, not an American suburb where every single house on the block has three moving Santas and a 2 meter tall snow globe on the front lawn and every house uses as much electricity a night as a small African village uses in a year.
As you can see, it doesn't look like a Christmas tree. We plan on taking it down during the New Year's holiday, but since it's not very Christmas-ish, in the event we don't get around to it, we will look more like strange people who want to keep lights on their tree year round and less like lazy people who forgot to take their Christmas lights down. As opposed to if we had put moving Santas in the yard, that is.
